RETHINKING SUPPLY CHAIN INCREASES VISIBILITY, EFFICIENCY
CHALLENGE:
One of this biotech company’s goals was to better understand and control their inbound supply chains throughout the U.S. They found that they lacked communication and visibility and discovered an unusually high percentage of late deliveries, which led to increased costs due to decreased productivity, damaged product, unnecessary expedite shipping, and delayed production.
SOLUTION:
Immediately, Langham began evaluating the company’s current carrier base to determine which were meeting requirements and which were not. Well-performing carriers were retained, while new partnerships were formed in areas where performance was lacking. In one instance, the company had a vendor whose shipments were often damaged. Langham helped determine that the vendor wasn’t adequately packing the product and was improperly stacking products. Source of the problem discovered. Problem solved.
RESULTS:
Within one year, the company realized a 45% increase in receiving productivity, 100% on-time performance, and 20% savings in transportation costs.
